Karate is a martial art form founded in the Ryukyu Islands now known as Okinawa, Japan. It was modeled partly from native fighting methods called te and from Chinese kenpō. Karate is a striking art form that uses punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, and open-handed techniques such as knife-hands.
